Diabetes, What Will It Cost You?

November is American Diabetes Month®. Using data from multiple agencies and registries, the Changing Diabetes® Barometer offered by Novo-Nordisk is a free interactive map allowing users to take a look at diabetes cost and prevalence statistics and forecast summaries for all 50 US states. By 2015, the total aggregate costs of diabetes (medical and indirect societal) in Florida are projected to be $26.74 billion; the 3rd highest in the country. Using this information, we can help change and improve diabetes care by speeding up the adoption of better practices around the world through the diffusion of knowledge.

Ona Youth Field Day 2013

View the photos from the 6th Annual Youth Field Day at the Ona Range Cattle Research and Education Center Friday June 28th. See if you notice Matt Warren and me anywhere in the pictures! Also, notice Mike’s “blue and orange gator skull” on display at our booth. We were under the tent so our booth isn’t highly visible in the photographs, except for the gator skull! We had a fun day with approximately 160 students, parents, and youth leaders in attendance.

New Animation Explains Changes Coming for Americans Under Obamacare

With major parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) going into effect in 2014, the Kaiser Family Foundation released a new animated video to help people understand the health care system changes on the horizon. "The YouToons Get Ready for Obamacare" explains the basic changes in the way Americans will get health coverage and what it will cost starting in 2014, whether it's through their employer, Medicaid, Medicare, or buying insurance on their own with the help of federal tax credits.
